Job Designation

The Supply Chain Manager provides leadership in the development of the team managing our global supply chain as a key element in delivering our Quality, Delivery, Cost, Inventory, and Innovation goals.  Organizes and directs the strategic initiatives and daily operations of our strategic sourcing, supplier development and logistics processes.  Engages in optimization of our Inventory management processes and establish a world-class supply chain organization.

Job Core Responsibilities

• Utilize best practice and lean techniques to identify, develop, and implement strategy, policy, processes, tools, metrics, action plans and countermeasures as required to deliver our inventory reduction, purchase price variance (PPV), and On-Time-Delivery Supply Chain PD objectives.
• Drive complete kanban conversion and maintenance, along with the appropriate supplier parameter management (i.e., blanket PO’s, lead-time, and minimum order quantity reduction) required to support our kanban materials flow system.
• Maximizes the balance between PPV and Inventory (total landed cost and inventory cost of capital), while ensuring parts availability.
• Take the lead role in strategic sourcing efforts, applying specific, direct focus on outsourcing to low-cost regions (LCR) and preferred suppliers. Manage the overall funnel of LCR activities to achieve desired results.
• Lead our supplier development efforts.  Establish supplier scorecards, identify target scorecard recipients, and drive appropriate supplier engagement to ensure desired improvements and sustainability.
• Provide sourcing support to our Contracts and R&D department as we develop new product and/or cost new contracts to ensure that we have appropriate parts and costs before launching a contract.
• Provide expertise in purchase contracts and PO terms and conditions to ensure that all purchasing deals are in accordance with our business guidelines and objectives.
• Recruit, develop, and retain supply chain talent as required to establish a world-class materials organization.
• Provide leadership to our overall materials flow throughout the supply chain.  This includes, but is not limited to: planning, sourcing, purchasing, transportation/logistics, receiving, storage, internal material flow, shipment, and customer delivery.
• Implementation of Purchasing Card payment arrangements as a working capital optimization tool
• Monitors the changing marketplace and work around plans to avoid a negative impact on corporate cost and delivery performance objectives
• Plans tactics and strategies for negotiations of subcontracts to maintain expenditures within program material budget limitation
• Leads and directs work for a team of employees as defined by business needs
• Manages staff selection, performance, development, and training processes to ensure team competencies and capabilities to reach the business goals and expectations
• Other responsibilities as assigned
• Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance
• Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary

Job Specifications

Education: Bachelor degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations
Years' Experience: 7-10 years of relevant experience
Skills: Excellent facilitation and project management skills with the ability to lead the procurement team, and to drive tasks to completion

  • Knowledge of procurement best practices and experience with managing tight development program deadlines in an aerospace/manufacturing environment
  • Understanding of contracts, compliance and government laws (domestic/international) relating to procurement
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills and demonstrated use of thought leadership to set and execute procurement strategies
  • Experience negotiating license contracts with a track record of success negotiating with a variety of  suppliers
  • Hands-on experience in shop floor operations leadership.
  • Practical and applied knowledge of sourcing, purchasing, and overall procurement processes, systems, and practices
  • Working knowledge and advanced training in Lean manufacturing concepts and techniques with significant exposure to kanban managed supply chain.
  • Proven ability to develop and enhance a sub-optimal organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead in a rapid changing, intense, and demanding environment.
  • Expert spreadsheet utilization skills, along with proficiency in word processing and presentation software (MS Office). 
  • Ability to understand and interpret blueprints and engineering specifications
  • Familiarity in a commercial aviation environment dealing with FAR regulations
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), with ability to drive tasks to completion
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and database management tools
