Role Summary

Meggitt Fuel Systems & Composites have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Composite Manufacturing Engineer to join the team at our Stevenage, Hertfordshire site. In this exciting role, you will have the opportunity to work on; 

  • Developing composite processing techniques and engineering assembly strategies to enable the manufacture of aerospace composite parts
  • Improving manufacturing processes in line with a Zero Defects philosophy
  • Interacting with customers to lead NPI and existing product programs
  • Using a data based approach to problem solving within the manufacturing environment.
     

Key Skills, Experience and Abilities

To be successful in this role you’ll have demonstrated knowledge and expertise of composite materials processing methods such as in and out of autoclave pre-preg systems and Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM), along with knowledge of core processing techniques.

You’ll also have previous proven experience in identifying and specifying tooling requirements for moulding and assembly processes and the ability to accept and approve tooling for production use whilst having the ability to influence at all levels of a matrix business as well as interfacing with external customers when required.


You will also have: 

  • Engineering project management mind-set with demonstrated accountability for leading NPI activities as well as being the technical point of contact for external customers.
  • Ability to create work instructions for composite components to encompass all processes (kit cutting, laminating, curing through to Assembly and Paint) to comply with customer specifications.
  • Proven track record in leading continuous improvement activities using lean methodologies to evaluate existing manufacturing processes - implementing improvements to enhance process performance. 
  • Ability to create/maintain BoMs and Routings within an ERP system.
  • Comprehensive understanding of a range of problem solving techniques such as (but not limited to) 8D and 5 Whys – Greenbelt is advantageous.
  • Experience in the conducting of PFMEA’s and implementation of control plans across a range of different product lines.
  • Strong organisational, analytical and communication skills and the ability to deliver results within a high performance culture (HPC) environment.
  • Can do, will do attitude – able to work as part of a team or independently to deliver to a common goal.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office suites. Able to use CATIA (or similar 3D package) to interrogate 3D models (advantageous)
