Job Designation

The Shipping and Receiving Manager directs the activities and employees who ship and receive supplies, materials and equipment.  Ensures the effective and efficient operation, of the broad functional area to control the flow of goods and regulates warehouse space in accordance with established policies and procedures.   

Job Core Responsibilities

  • Effectively manages and develops staff for the Shipping and Receiving Function and oversees the related activities
  • Ensures the effectiveness of operating procedures, space utilization, and maintenance and protection of facilities and equipment
  • Identifies roadblocks and inefficiencies in business processes and makes improvements to ensure requirements are met efficiently
  • Confirms the Shipping and Receiving Function has sufficient resources, skills and capabilities in place to meet objectives
  • Monitors and reports on key metrics and performance indicators to enable the accurate and timely monitoring of objectives
  • Ensures general safety, compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and company requirements
  • Leads and directs work for team of employees as defined by business needs
  • Manages staff selection, performance, development and training processes to ensure team competencies and capabilities to reach the business goals and expectations
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary

Job Specifications

Education:  Post-Secondary Degree in related field or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectation
Certifications :  Vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field
Years Experience :  7 - 10 years of relevant experience 
Skills      

  • Extensive experience in shipping and receiving management and a successful track record with leading employees
  • Solid experience in recognizing and solving complex and challenging problems from established operating procedures and/or scientific methods
  • Selects and uses applicable methods, procedures and standards to meet targets independently
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal skills to drive tasks to completion 
  • Solid experience in Microsoft Office and database management tools
