Job Designation

The Benefits Manager is responsible for the day-to-day administration, service delivery and project management of employee benefits plans and programs.  This is a hands-on role that will implement new benefit offerings and changes, educates employees on company benefit programs and oversees administration, ensuring legal compliance, managing, developing and coaching team members.  

Job Core Responsibilities
  • Project management and administration of employee health, wellness, retirement programs and other duties as assigned.
  • Establish strong partnerships with HR Operations, Legal, Payroll, Finance and other colleagues; lead cross-functional projects to implement new offerings, ensure compliance, and streamline operations.
  • Monitor market practices, trends and regulatory environment to ensure benefit offerings remain highly competitive, fiscally responsible, and legally compliant.
  • Recommend strategies which appropriately balance employee needs and company priorities.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies to ensure effective promotion and understanding of US benefit offerings to new and existing employees, candidates, and their family members.
  • Oversee compliance requirements and filings including PPACA, HIPAA, SARs, Form 5500 filings, non-discrimination testing, etc.
  • Manage relationships with US benefit broker, advisors, TPAs, carriers and other vendors, ensuring high performance standards are met or exceeded. Periodically market available services.
  • Provide support as needed for any collective bargaining contract negotiations.
  • Prepare announcement, plan summary documents and other media for communicating plans to employees. Oversee and present new hire and annual enrollment meetings.
  • Answer questions, educate and provide information to employees and management as needed on benefit programs.
  • Prepare and execute, with legal consultation, benefits documentation, such as original and amended plan document, updates, and vendor agreements.. Instruct insurance carriers, and other vendors about benefits program changes.


Job Specifications

Education:  Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or related field or  equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations 

Years: 8 - 10 years of relevant experience 


  • Seven to ten years of progressive benefits administration and project management experience
  • Strong working knowledge of state and federal laws governing benefits plans
  • Strong working knowledge of health, wellness, retirement and leave of absence benefits and programs
  • Benefits or HR related certifications or designation a plus (e.g. CEBS, PHR, SPHR)
  • Minimum of five years of experience managing employees, their development, performance and projects
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Strong mathematical skills and understanding of actuarial and general accounting concepts and methods
  • Ability to handle confidential employee information with discretion and good judgment
  • Ability to balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proactive, collaborative team member with excellent attention to detail and strong sense of urgency and follow through.
  • Merger, acquisition and divestiture experience a plus
