Job Designation

Provide finished drawings in connection with design assignments and make necessary calculations to complete the drawings with minimum supervision.

Job Core Responsibilities

 

  • Performs original design work of the less complex nature.
  • Makes finished drawings in connection with design assignments with minimum supervision.
  • Effectively utilize computer aided design equipment as required.
  • Acts on technical information for the preparation of documentation.
  • Advises supervision of unrealistic or impossible technical requirements for a given proposal or contract.

 

Technical Requirements

 

Associate Degree in Engineering or Drafting Technology, or two years college level training in engineering, including mechanical drawing, or the equivalent, however acquired. A Bachelors’ in Engineering Technology is desirable. Must have a working knowledge of engineering mathematics, strength of materials and manufacturing processes.

Minimum of six (6) year drafting including design experience with an Associate degree. No experience required with a Bachelors’ in Engineering Technology. Must be familiar with government specifications, and accepted industrial drawing standards. Shop experience would be helpful.

Job Specifications

This position reports to a Group Leader or Section head and coordinates with Designers or Engineers involved in the same project. There are no subordinates reporting to this position.

Specific responsibilities include minor layouts, product design and some analysis; knowledge of the company’s engineering design practices and drafting procedures is required.

The incumbent performs drafting work of the more difficult nature, from basic layouts, sketches, and other information furnished by designers. He must demonstrate the ability to perform original design work of a less complex nature, which involves the design of production parts and assemblies and/or tools or equipment developed as a company product or manufactured for a customer. Must be able to recognize the relationship of one part to another including the relationship of various parts to the complete unit; having completed a product design, the Designer/Drafter will be required to make supporting drawings to clarify detail or layout of that design. Produces finished drawings and designs as described above with little technical direction; utilizes computer aided design equipment as required; guides and assists less experienced drafters; and performs other departmental duties as assigned.
