Manufacturing Engineer

• Developing processing techniques and engineering assembly strategies to enable the manufacture of specialised advanced parts for use in a range aerospace applications.
• Improving manufacturing processes in line with a Zero Defects philosophy.
• Using a data based approach to problem solving within the manufacturing environment.
• Interacting with customers in support of NPI and existing product programs.

Core Responsibilities

• Lead continuous improvement initiatives aimed at waste reduction and process optimisation.
• Utilise ERP system to create and manage Bills of Materials (BoMs) and Routings.
• Possess a deep understanding of problem-solving methodologies like 8D and 5 Whys.
• Identify and define tooling requirements for laminating and assembly processes, approving tooling for production use.
• Conduct Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and implement control plans across various product lines.
• Demonstrate an engineering project management mind set, especially in New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, while serving as the technical liaison for external clients.
• Develop, optimise, and facilitate composite manufacturing processes to achieve cost-effective, high-quality, and dependable production.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including design, stress, materials, and production, to seamlessly integrate composite components into final products.
• Oversee the design and fabrication of moulds, fixtures, and tooling necessary for composite manufacturing procedures.

Skills, Knowledge and Abillities

• Academic Qualifications to HND level within a relative engineering subject or an accredited Engineering Apprenticeship in addition to industrial experience.
• A self-starter, with a proven ability for working with minimal supervision and take ownership of driving activities through to completion.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
• Proficiency in CAD software.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyse complex manufacturing challenges.
• Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• In-depth knowledge of composite materials, manufacturing processes (such as hand laminating, resin infusion, pre-preg laminating), and curing techniques, is preferred but not essential.
• Familiarity with regulatory and safety requirements related to composite manufacturing.
• Experience with statistical process control (SPC) methods and process optimisation techniques.
• Knowledge of Lean manufacturing and six sigma.
