Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Manufacturing Engineer to join our dynamic engineering and manufacturing team.
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in developing and improving our composite manufacturing processes, ensuring product quality, efficiency, and innovation. - Developing processing techniques and engineering assembly strategies to enable the manufacture of specialised advanced parts for use in a range aerospace applications.
- Improving manufacturing processes in line with a Zero Defects philosophy.
- Using a data based approach to problem solving within the manufacturing environment.
- Interacting with customers in support of NPI and existing product programs.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives aimed at waste reduction and process optimisation.
- Utilise ERP system to create and manage Bills of Materials (BoMs) and Routings.
- Possess a deep understanding of problem-solving methodologies like 8D and 5 Whys.
- Identify and define tooling requirements for laminating and assembly processes, approving tooling for production use.
- Conduct Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and implement control plans across various product lines.
- Demonstrate an engineering project management mind set, especially in New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, while serving as the technical liaison for external clients.
- Develop, optimise, and facilitate composite manufacturing processes to achieve cost-effective, high-quality, and dependable production.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including design, stress, materials, and production, to seamlessly integrate composite components into final products.
- Oversee the design and fabrication of moulds, fixtures, and tooling necessary for composite manufacturing procedures.
Skills, Knowledge and Abillities
- Academic Qualifications to HND level within a relative engineering subject or an accredited Engineering Apprenticeship in addition to industrial experience.
- A self-starter, with a proven ability for working with minimal supervision and take ownership of driving activities through to completion.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in CAD software.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyse complex manufacturing challenges.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- In-depth knowledge of composite materials, manufacturing processes (such as hand laminating, resin infusion, pre-preg laminating), and curing techniques, is preferred but not essential.
- Familiarity with regulatory and safety requirements related to composite manufacturing.
- Experience with statistical process control (SPC) methods and process optimisation techniques.
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing and six sigma.
