Senior Procurement Manager, Group Logistics

Purpose:

 

You will be expected to take part in Industry specific procurement groups, provide procurement advice and support for both the senior leadership team and other senior management committees as required. You will be accountable for the delivery of verified cost savings, based on aggressive corporate cost down targets.

 

You will also be responsible for both tactical and strategic procurement activities. For example the sourcing activities related to specific sub categories, and the overall management of the assigned Indirect categories contracts on the company’s behalf.

 

You will need to create a strong collaboration, with the regional heads of indirect Procurement, the diverse Meggitt business globally, and be rigorous in supplier selection, meticulous in determining standards, researching suppliers, analysing value and negotiating contracts, to ensure that value is delivered to the business units and the wider group as a whole.

Specific responsibilities:

 

  • To continuously and successfully achieve ambitious savings targets.
  • Understand the current state, in terms of global spend on the Group Logistics Services categories/subcategories across the Meggitt businesses.
  • Develop, and implement a robust global strategy for the procurement of the assigned Group Indirect categories, that optimises performance for the business in terms of cost, quality, delivery and responsiveness.  Part of this, centres on:
    • Improving the tactical procurement structures, focus and capability of local procurement people.
    • Securing buy-in from local and corporate stakeholders
    • Supplier development on a global basis
    • Achieving the lowest Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
  • Lead supplier RFx process, negotiations and contractual engagement, and contract implementation.
  • Support the development and implementation of procurement policies and system strategies to optimise tendering, contracts management, spend analytics and supplier performance management.
  • Leverage resources across all boundaries to support business goals, bringing all expertise necessary to address the institutions challenges to safeguard against contractual and commercial risk.
  • Report to the Senior Leadership Team, Sourcing Councils, and respective committees as may be required from time to time, to provide up to date status reports on procurement to include development, demonstrate value for money and compliance to regulatory procurement requirements, including anti-bribery and corruption and fraud.
  • Develop excellent and effective collaborative relationships with key stakeholders and external providers and other agencies to ensure strategic and operational needs are fully understood and incorporated.  This involves regular supplier business reviews.
  • Be the main POC/point of escalation for sites and carriers, as relating to Procurement/Commercial matters.
  • Promote importance of procurement across the organisation and best practice.
  • Ensure all aspects of regulatory compliance are adhered to and work within the relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Undertake other duties not specifically stated which from time to time are necessary without altering the nature or level of responsibility.

Key skills and competencies required:

 

  • High level management experience, and used to delivering fantastic results including but not limited to cost savings, with minimum oversight.
  • Gravitas that comes from senior management experience in similar role, ideally within a customized transportation solutions provider or fulfilment organization.
  • Strong leadership skills including influencing, delivery, project management, analytical and research skills
  • Understanding of all transportation modes - international and domestic
  • Procurement Leadership experience, within a global company, with solid knowledge of procurement category management best practises/processes
  • Strong experience sourcing and contract management of Logistics categories
  • Experience of procurement implementation/transformation.
  • Experience of effective team-working and working collaboratively.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret data, with a strong financial/commercial focus, but maintain the “big picture” view
  • Self-Starter / Self-management skills, and excellent emphatic communication skills across all levels in the company.
  • Experience of working globally with different cultures

 

In addition, the post holder will have a strong grasp of Procurement Category Management principles, latest tools, techniques, and best practice.   It is also expected that the role holder will work closely with a number of Indirect Procurement Leads on a Matrix basis, providing technical procurement support and strategic leadership as appropriate.

 

Required Qualifications and capabilities:

 

  • 5 - 8 years Logistics Services Procurement Category experience
  • Minimum 10 years Procurement experience, at least 5 at a strategic level
  • Global Company/Procurement experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Supply Chain Management, Logistics or related field.
  • Recognised Procurement qualification, eg MCIPS
  • Recognised Project Management Qualification would be an advantage.
  • Aerospace and Defence industry knowledge and experience, is a distinct advantage
