Strategic business unit:
Meggitt Aircraft Braking Systems provides aircraft braking systems to a diverse group of customers including airline operators, aircraft constructors, private aircraft owners and charter operators, governments and military operations and distributors and repair stations.

We are located in Akron, Danville and Gardena in the United States; Coventry in the UK plus Fresnillo and Queretaro in Mexico, with repair stations in USA, Europe and Asia.
•    We occupy lead positions in aircraft wheels, brakes and brake control systems
•    Our products are on an active fleet of over 30,000 aircraft
•    We are a significant braking system supplier to regional jets, business jets and military aircraft
•    Our capability includes helicopter rotor brakes and brake temperature monitoring


Purpose:
To play a full and active role in the activities and operations of the Friction Materials team with specific responsibilities for the design, manufacturing, review, analysis and/or characterization of both physical and dynamic properties of carbon friction materials.

 

Responsibilities
    Review and analyse data while applying data analysis statistics. 
    Characterize materials using various techniques including optical and SEM microscopy.
    Support new program design teams as required.
    Write material processing documents and maintain current processing documents.
    Participate in conceptualizing, planning and executing carbon R&D both in evolutionary and revolutionary stages of development.
    Develop new products and improvements to present products as a company project or for a specific customer.  The work is both theoretical and experimental in nature.
    May participate in customer briefings, design reviews, and demonstrations by providing technical assistance and guidance.
    Expected to interface with carbon production in various locations.
    May be asked to support or direct university research as needed. 
    Expected to lead multiple projects at one time.

 

Key skills and competencies required:
    Degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Materials Engineering from an accredited college or university.  
    Experienced in tribology, carbon/carbon processing or related field desired.
    Background in carbon/carbon composites is required.  Understanding of Chemical Vapor Infiltration (CVI), high temperature processing and friction and wear (tribology) of carbon and carbon oxidation protection systems desired.
    Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project and Visual Basic Programming
    Good communication skills – ability to communicate opinions, ideas, or facts to others in formal or informal environments.

Desired criteria:
    Registration as a Chartered Engineer (UK) or Professional Engineer (US) desired. 
    CI training/experience desired.
    Experience with DFMEA and Risk Analysis desired.
    Available to travel as needed.
