Job Designation

The Senior Director will lead, and direct all aspects of engineering within the Engine Composites product group, including new technology development, New Product Introduction (NPI) and support/guidance required for the higher level business strategy.  The role will be integral in leading the team required to effectively develop and executing the Product Group strategy from new technology development, bids and proposals as well as long term operational and consolidation strategies.

This role can be based in our San Diego, CA or Erlanger, KY site. 

Job Core Responsibilities

  • Helps define business strategy, from the application of advanced technology to developing manufacturing capably and know-how in order to gain a competitive advantage in technology and cost
  • Leads, builds and directs the engineering teams, and maintains alignment to business strategy
  • Builds positive working relationships by partnering collaboratively with other functions (Operations, Finance, etc.) to attain the best overall business outcomes.  
  • Ensures appropriate resources to achieve financial and business objectives
  • Relentlessly drives the organization forward using lean principles and leveraging RCCA tools to create and implement robust tools and processes for the journey to being a world class organization.
  • Defines processes and procedures to drive the engineering units efficiently and effectively, while ensuring department budget is met 
  • Provides guidance for FAA certification and customer approvals for all the Aerospace products.
  • Assists marketing with identification and development of all new product opportunities.
  • Implements and enforces divisional and corporate policies.
  • Implements programs to enhance employee morale and productivity, including effective performance management activities (reward & recognition, PIP administration etc.).
  • Facilitates interdepartmental communications. 
  • Oversees technical and professional development of the engineering/manufacturing engineering functions.
  • Ensures continuous flow of product development under designated budgets and time constrains 

Job Specifications

Education : A Bachelor or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis on Composites.  A masters in engineering and or an advanced degree in management is preferred. An MBA could prove helpful.  Alternatively- equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations
Years Experience : 15 years or more of relevant experience
Skills

  • Expertise in a driving effective New Product Introduction (NPI), with composites.  Aerospace Industry experience is preferred but automotive or industrial experience will be considered.
  • 10+ years of aerospace composite design experience, ideally from an aerospace supplier perspective (preferably including RTM)
  • Engineering management experience required, with strong skills in team building and employee development
  • Experience working in a matrixed environment that requires working collaboratively across different functions.
  • Demonstrated applied knowledge/experience working closely with Program Management and IPT’s
  • Hands-on leader with the ability to motivate and empower others while offering focused leadership in ambiguous circumstances 
  • Ability to execute functional business plans and contribute to the development of functional strategy
  • Able to utilize and develop technology strategically to enhance business growth
  • Capable of directing the resolution of complex business problems, while applying analytical based input and sound judgment.
  • Demonstrates a high level of ethical behavior in exercising judgment and discretion in matters of significance
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to negotiate and influence, while exercising sensitivity to the audience
