Expertise in this division ranges from heat exchangers used in off-shore gas processing to the design and manufacture of dynamic instrumentation for vibration, shock and pressure measurements. Our heat exchanger technology has not only enabled our customers to save weight, space, and money, but offer higher duties, smaller sizes, and greater integrity over conventional heat exchangers. We are a leading supplier of small-frame gas turbine actuation systems and fuel metering valves for the oil and gas and power generation sectors.

Our Defense Systems product group includes a wealth of expertise with products ranging from airborne decoy deployment systems to projectile tracking technology is another of our specialties. We produce tiny radar systems that are installed on drone aircraft to track incoming missiles or bullets, reassuring aircrew and missile manufacturers that their weapons are working as advertised.

Job Designation

The Mechanical Engineer 2 provides significant expertise on complex mechanical engineering issues and acts as a professional resource for the NPI team. Designs and develops a variety of mechanical components and systems for products.

Job Core Responsibilities

•    Provides mechanical design expertise to support development of new mechanical items or improving existing ones
•    Executes and supports complex mechanical engineering assignments throughout the project life cycle and ensures cost and schedule targets are met or exceeded.
•    Initiates improvements to Meggitt products, using best practices and professional knowledge
•    Acts as a professional resource for colleagues and provides technical direction and guidance to other team members
•    Reduces costs and improves mechanical design and development processes, using best practices and professional expertise
•    Collaborates with electrical and software functions to yield the optimal multidisciplinary solutions
•    Maintains adherence to internal and external processes including Meggitt Program Lifecycle Requirements, design reviews and other technical governance
•    Collaborates across the Meggitt business to leverage best practice 
•    Performs value analysis during the product design phase while optimizing product development costs
•    Manages on-time performance of engineering activities of assigned projects
•    Manages compliance traceability for customer requirements and industry standards
•    Designs to cost target, manufacturing, assembly and test capabilities
•    Provides technical support for new projects and evaluates the requirements and implications
•    Utilize Six Sigma tools for design work and analysis
•    Maintains project files and appropriate records of work
•    Other responsibilities as assigned
•    Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance
•    Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary

Job Specifications

Education:  Bachelor degree in Engineering required
Years’ Experience: 3+ years of relevant experience
•    A background in the design and development of electromechanically actuation, high pressure/temperature flow control devices and pressure equipment or equivalent desired
•    A background in the design and development of electro-mechanical devices for Hazardous Locations and Ordinary Locations desired
•    Demonstrated expertise with complex mechanical engineering solutions
•    Demonstrated expertise in design to cost, manufacturing, assembly and testing
•    Experience with new product introduction process
•    Experience with engineering change management
•    Effective time management skills
•    Ability to effectively interface with customers on regular basis
•    Experience with 3-D modeling, CAD and Solidworks a plus
•    Ability to improve products or services by applying professional and business knowledge
•    Systematic problem solving skills with root cause analysis and corrective action 
•    Able to solve complex problems; makes decisions based on the analysis of multiple sources of information
•    Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to drive tasks to completion
