Job Designation

The Senior Materials Engineer provides expertise on material issues used in manufacturing and production processes. Develops materials specifically designed to endure and perform in unique environments for new and existing products to customer specifications.

Job Core Responsibilities

•    The primary duties in this job require analysis, interpretation or deductions from facts, available information and data. Requirements involve the comparison and the evaluation of results or solutions after considering various possibilities and making recommendations and/or decisions accordingly using professional judgment. Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
•    Participates in the material selection process, ensuring alignment with component specification requirements.
•    Uses knowledge in providing technical support for new projects and evaluates new materials and processes.
•    Provides knowledge in supporting manufacturing through process development and root cause investigation.
•    Compiles material and process specifications and technical report.
•    Reduces costs and improves materials processes using best practices and knowledge.
•    Partners with internal departments and makes recommendations relating to material and processing issues.
•    Acts as a resource for colleagues for material related issues.
•    Maintains project files and appropriate records of work.
•    Other responsibilities as assigned.

Job Specifications

Education:  Bachelor Degree in Chemistry (preferred), Materials Engineering, or Material Science 
Years’ Experience: 5 -10 years of relevant experience in polymeric materials and related processes 

•    Demonstrated problem solving knowledge 
•    Advanced knowledge of elastomer-based materials and processes
•    Ability to apply knowledge of materials to improve products or services    
•    Experience in working with a development team (internal or external) in creating a material for a particular need      
•    Knowledge of regulations such as REACH and NESHAP
•    Ability to makes decisions based on the analysis of multiple sources of information to solve problems
•    Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to drive tasks to completion
•    Ability to organize and manage projects
•    Basic understanding and utilization of Root Cause and Corrective Action processes and tools 
•    Familiarity with instrumentation for material analysis
•    Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and related computer skills
