Job Designation

The Designer/Drafter Specialist provides significant expertise on complex mechanical designs and acts as a professional resource for the team. Designs and details drawings for a variety of mechanical components and or products.              

Job Core Responsibilities

  • Provides mechanical design expertise to support development of new mechanical items or improving existing ones
  • Maintains project design files and appropriate records of work
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining effective communications with key vendors.
  • Utilize computer aided design software to create and revise designs, save and release data via PDM system
  • Act on technical information for the purpose of design documentation and Configuration Control.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Advise supervision of unrealistic or impossible technical requirements for a given proposal or contract.
  • Advise supervision of any cost or time saving concepts in design of the product or design/drafting practices.
  • Understand and take advantage of the new technologies in design and manufacturing
  • Responsibilities include minor to major layouts, product and tool design and some analysis.
  • Knowledge of Meggitt and Government engineering design practices and drafting procedures is required.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Job Specifications

Education: Associate degree in Engineering or Drafting Technology or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations.

Years' Experience: 5+ years of relevant experience

Skills: Demonstrated expertise with complex mechanical design solutions

Proficient with 2D drawing standards and requirements including GD&T.

Proficient with 3D modeling and drawings in CATIA V5. ENOVIA, NX, Solidworks experience a plus. Candidates must be willing to complete a Catia skills assessment to demonstrate proficiency level.

Design/manufacturing experience, tooling and mold design a plus.

Ability to improve products or services by applying professional and business knowledge     

Able to solve complex problems; makes decisions based on the analysis of multiple sources of information

Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to drive tasks to completion

MS Office. SAP a plus
