Meggitt Aircraft Braking Systems provides aircraft braking systems to a diverse group of customers including airline operators, aircraft constructors, private aircraft owners and charter operators, governments and military operations and distributors and repair stations.

We are located in Akron, Danville and Gardena in the United States; Coventry in the UK plus Fresnillo and Queretaro in Mexico, with repair stations in USA, Europe and Asia.

In this role you will be working within a team that executes the development of new MABS wheel & brake equipment, ensuring that the design meets the requirements laid down by the customer, government agencies and MABS internal standards. This encompasses adherence to performance, cost and schedule requirements. The role also includes support for internal customers to ensure the business delivers its commitments to its contractual customers and operators.


• When required, lead / be responsible for Wheel & Brake (W&B) Centre of Excellence (COE) projects as the Lead W&B Engineer. 

• Required to perform performance calculations and simulations to validate that the equipment will meet the required design requirements. Also required to check and approve calculations conducted by other team members and help define and maintain the calculation standards and practices.  

• Creation and review of technical requirement documents in accordance with government standards, company standards and customer requirements. Also required to approve documents authored by other team members and help to maintain the document standards and practices.   

• As Lead W&B Engineer responsibility for all phases of equipment for new product development including requirements management, requirements validation, design manufacturing phase, qualification / certification testing and initial entry into service.

• As Lead W&B Engineer and in conjunction with the Lead W&B Designer responsible to ensure all program targets are satisfied including technical performance, non-recurring costs (NRC), recurring costs (RC) and project milestones (Schedule). This includes coordination with other Engineering functions to support the equipment development.

• Responsible for assisting and tracking of key metrics through the development process including NRC, DTC, DMC,  reliability, weight, etc. for their assigned equipment.

• As Lead W&B Engineer responsibility for coordinating with stress, thermal, vibration and reliability analysis engineers to ensure adequate margins against design requirements are met. Also a Lead W&B Engineer required to approve these documents.

• Works closely with assigned Test Engineers and Lead Engineer to assist in the development of all qualification test documents and test set-up drawings. As a Lead W&B Engineer ensures qualification test plans will verify requirements according to the agreed method of compliance. 

• Assists in the maintenance of equipment parts lists and drawing reviews to ensure drawings are released on time and are in conformance with design and drafting standards 

• Lead W&B Engineer coordinate/lead internal/external design reviews as required by the PLE/SME/Chief Engineer and customer.

• Supports or as a Lead W&B Engineer leads Root Cause & Corrective Action (RCCA) for qualification / design / manufacturing issues.

• Required to actively support Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives within the W&B Centre of Excellence, expected to help drive these to completion.

• Required to approve Engineering drawings for component parts, sub-assemblies and assemblies and interface control.

• Depending on experience required for Material Review Board (MRB) disposition.

• Consults with and seeks guidance from the Product Line Expert (PLE), SME (Subject Matter Expert) and Chief Engineers as required.

• Provides technical guidance and direction for other members of the W&B COE team.


Key skills and competencies required:

• Degree in associated Engineering field from an accredited college or university

• Product development experience including design, manufacture, testing and in-service troubleshooting/operations (as applicable)

• Experience with DFM, GT&D and working knowledge of applicable manufacturing processes

• Project Management skills including cost / schedule tracking

• Experience with DFMA’s and Risk Analysis

• Good communication skills – able to make presentations to customers and lead daily discussions with group of engineers/designers and technicians (as required)

• Available to travel as needed


Key skills and competencies preferred:

• Registration as a Chartered Engineer

• Systems knowledge/exposure/experience – preferred

• CI Training/Experience – preferred
