Job Designation

This position is in the Technology group, preparing technical responses to customer requests and managing new technology efforts through technology readiness level 6 (TRL6) under company Applied Research and Technology policies.   The Technology group is a part of the Flow Controls Engineering department within Meggitt’s Engine Systems Division.  The department is responsible for design and development of pneumatic, electric, hydraulic, and other aerospace valves and actuation devices.

Job Core Responsibilities
  • Develop design concepts for pneumatically and hydraulically powered modulating and shutoff valves used in aero engine bleed air and environmental control systems of in accordance with customer requirements and company procedures.
  • Conduct technical specification reviews and complete compliance matrices consistent within company processes; define derived requirements where more detailed requirements are needed to fully define a product.
  • Manage projects throughout the proposal stage (including concept development, bills of materials, cost estimating, scheduling, and technical proposals) up to the point of contract award.
  • Manage technology development projects from the point of recognizing needs, performing basic scientific research, concept selection/review, through readiness testing and improvement/optimization for manufacturing.
  • Complete assigned projects on time, within budget, and with high quality, while representing the company with customers during technical discussions.
  • Engage in hands-on development testing and manufacturing maturation support, both on site and with partner product groups or supplier as appropriate.
  • Maintain project files and appropriate records of work; comply with standard design practices and procedures applicable to the aerospace industry and company.
Education & Experience Required

Education Level: (Required):          Bachelor's Degree                in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering discipline


5+ years of experience relevant to aerospace electromechanical actuator design and development and fluid control products

10+ years of experience in engineering technology preferred


Skills Required
  • Demonstrated expertise with complex engineered mechanical components and devices.  Experience in design and developing electromechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic actuators and valves is strongly desired, along with familiarity with high temperature bleed air controls components and various families of valve designs.
  • Proficiency generating, reviewing, and using complex mechanical drawings and 3D CAD models under aerospace configuration control practices.  Familiarity with structural and performance analysis techniques; ability to perform first-order analyses independently.  Familiarity with new product development practices applicable in an aerospace industry environment.
  • Capable mentor, able to check others' designs and able to manage/integrate packages of drawings
  • Excellent customer service orientation and cultural leadership.  Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing within and beyond engineering organizations and in ways that are persuasive to customers.
  • Strong prioritization and decision-making skills coupled with sound project execution capability.
  • Ability to improve products, services, processes, etc by applying knowledge and behaviors of a professional engineer.
