Job Designation

The Tool Crib Attendant Specialist issues tools and equipment to machinist and maintains records of tools and equipment issued and returned.

Shift: Day, 5:00am - 1:30pm

Job Core Responsibilities

  • Maintains inventory, stores and distributes machine shop tools and other equipment.
  • Maintains tool functionality and calibration specifications.
  • Responsible for ensuring tools are in safe condition by performing frequent inspections of tools and equipment for wear, defects, or damage.
  • Maintain an inventory of tools by tracking the distribution of tools and users in a database or other system.
  • Works with department leads to stage tools, fixtures and inspection tools to have kits ready for set ups when needed.
  • Orders new tools and equipment as needed to support machine shop production.
  • Responsible for ensuring the tool crib adheres to the 6S principles and help implement Lean practices, on any shift as required.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary

Job Specifications

Education: A Secondary Certificate/High School Diploma or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations is preferred.

Certifications: Vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field.

Years Experience: 3 years of relevant experience in machine shop tooling, working with tool suppliers, reading blue prints, and other machine shop functions to help support production.


  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements are representative of the knowledge, skills, qualifications, competencies, abilities and any physical demands if required.
  • To set up and operate under established machining methods and practices any size and type of milling machine with a minimum amount of assistance. To use machinists’ hand tools and a variety of precision measuring instruments.


Work Environment and Safety Equipment Required:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods and stand to perform work. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee must be able to lift, push, pull or move up to fifty (50) pounds or more with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

  1. Occasionally required to lift up to 50 lbs.
  2. Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach and move about the facility.
  3. Safety glasses, shop coat/apron, proper shoes.
  4. Occasional exposure to shop element such as noise, dust, odors and fumes.


Typical Materials, Tools and Equipment Used:

Materials worked on: A wide variety of sharp tools and fixtures made out of different type of materials.

Tools used: Hand tools, precision measuring instruments and a variety of gages.

Equipment used: Tool setter, inspection tools, computer.
