Job Designation

The Chief Inspection Manager will provide leadership, day to day direction and training for the site’s quality inspection group. Oversee and participate in matters relating to the administration of inspection activities for the Quality Department in general, such as managing inspection queues and methodologies, submitting LAI/ FAI Reports for the customer, determining and maintaining schedules to be met, collection of data, generating documents, entering data per customer requirements, maintaining databases, reviewing documents for accuracy and thoroughness, storing documents electronically and in hard copy, coordination of third party inspection (including customer source inspections), and any related activities necessary to consistently achieve objectives.

Job Core Responsibilities

  • Manages staff selection, performance, development and training processes to ensure team competencies and capabilities to reach the business goals and expectations
  • Maintains and tracks metrics for the purposes of analysis, control and management of the inspection team. 
  • Manages workload requirements and assignments to inspectors to meet production and project schedules.
  • Verifies the Inspection objectives and processes are aligned with the site, Division and corporate goals.
  • Develops systems and methods to measure, monitor and control processes and products to assure compliant product, including the introduction and management of SPC as required.
  • Coordinates and performs FAI report per AS9102 standard.  Maintain FAI Approval Database, FAI Report requirements based on due dates or other priorities as directed.
  • Regularly verify and report on accuracy and progress of requested priorities given by Operations and Programs.
  • Regularly communicate priorities and changes to the Quality Department 
  • Interface with Quality Engineers ensuring timely processing and collection of documents and resolution to any issues
  • Collect and review documents for accuracy and thoroughness, generating updates as needed
  • Delegated Customer Representative (DSQR) for Inspection activities
  • Delegated FAA Inspection (DMIR)
  • Perform additional Quality Department related tasks as required (Receiving Inspection, Final Inspection, and MRB)
  • Fosters professional growth and development of inspectors through personal example and appropriate training
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary
     

Job Specifications

Education: Post-Secondary Degree in Quality Assurance or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectation
Certification: 
•    ASME Y14.5 GD&T certificate preferred
•    Certified Lead Auditor or equivalent experience in related field
Years of Experience:  Minimum of 7 year of experience

Skills:
•    Supervisory skills, including delegation, training and evaluating performance of a Union workforce
•    Able to lead, plan and direct technical efforts, and apply technical tools to meet team objectives
•    Keen analytical skills with a high level of attention to details in order to prepare statistical analysis
•    Ability to make technical and managerial decisions which will have a significant effect on Quality Assurance
•    Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead cross-functional teams as well as communicate effectively with all internal and external customers and employees in a timely and effective manner    
•    Strong prioritization skills, including the ability to work independently and prioritize duties with minimal supervision, in order to meet deadlines
•    Full understanding of Aerospace manufacturing practices, policies, procedures, regulations as these relate to quality specifications and standards (e.g. AS9100 and AS9102), including knowledge of the AS9102 forms and AS13000 standards.
•    Thorough knowledge of ASME Y 14.5 GD&T, CMM Operations and measurement techniques
•    Ability to read and understand blue print requirements, specific instructions and procedures
•    Well-organized, detail-oriented, and ability to multi-task.  Ability to gather data, to compile information and prepare reports
•    Ability to visualize and plan objectives and goals strategically
•    Team building skills
•    Decision making skills
•    Strong computer skills, including database management tools.  Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and web-browsers
