Job Designation

The NDT Inspector, completes work according to instructions, specifications and procedures. Conducts a variety of Non Destructive Tests, including liquid penetrant and radiography.   

Job Core Responsibilities

  • Be capable of interpreting and completing the process controls required for penetrant inspection, e.g. proper lighting, temperatures, system performance evaluations, etc.

•   Be capable of processing parts through the complete penetrant inspection cycle.

•   Be capable of interpretation of process procedures, specifications and evaluation techniques specific to liquid penetrant inspection.

•   Be capable of documenting liquid penetrant inspection results.

•   Be thoroughly familiar with the scope and limitations of the liquid penetrant method(s).

•   Be capable of developing inspection techniques as derived from processing procedures, codes, specifications, etc.

  • Be capable of interpreting and completing the process controls required for radiographic inspection, e.g. x-ray tube warm up procedures, densitometer calibration, film step wedge preparation and review, film holder and intensity screen inspection and maintenance, film storage, viewer intensity checks, film processing solution checks and maintenance, etc.

•   Be capable of set up and operation of radiation generating devices, e.g. x-ray machines and processing parts through the complete radiographic inspection cycle.

  • Be capable of operating digital detector array x-ray systems including daily process controls,

•   Be capable of interpretation of process procedures, specifications and evaluation techniques specific to radiographic inspection.

•   Be capable of interpreting radiographic film and documenting the inspection results.

•   Be thoroughly familiar with the scope and limitations of the radiographic inspection method(s).

•   Be capable of developing inspection techniques as derived from processing procedures, codes, specifications, etc.

•   Although not a requirement, certification in radiation safety, such as the ASNT IRRSP Radiation Safety certification, is desirable and recommended.

Job Specifications

Education: A Secondary Certificate/High School Diploma or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations
Certifications: Vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field
Years Experience: 2 years or more of relevant experience
Skills:

  • Penetrant: 16 hours training per NAS410
  • Radiography: 40 hours per NAS410
