Job Designation

The Assistant Controller leads the business accounting activities generally within a business unit or a site, including the preparation, maintenance and reconciliation of ledger accounts and financial statements. Prepares records, analyzes and reports accounting transactions, while ensuring the integrity of records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and/or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

Job Core Responsibilities

• Assists the business unit or site in maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures
• Participates in the preparation and evaluation of budgets and other financial operating reports
• Maintains oversight of and prepares cash flow forecast
• Leads general business accounting activities, while training and coaching Accounting staff
• Maintains ownership of all aspects of the general ledger at a business unit or site
• Oversees inter-company activity enforcement of internal controls
• Performs the preparation of Personal Property, Sales and Use, and Real Estate Tax filings
• Maintains fixed asset registers
• Oversees and approves biweekly payroll
• Prepares a complete and accurate annual audit data package for external audits
• Reviews and approves journal entries and account reconciliations prepared by staff
• Leads and directs work for team of employees as defined by business needs
• Manages staff selection, performance, development and training processes to ensure team competencies and capabilities to reach the business goals and expectations
• Other responsibilities as assigned
• Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
• Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary.

Job Specifications

Education:  Bachelor Degree in Accounting required

Years' Experience: 5-8 years of Accounting experience


  • Thorough understanding and experience of standard accounting concepts, practices and procedures including compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and/or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • Knowledge of accounting, financial reporting and financial analysis acquired through related work experience in increasingly complex roles
  • Excellent team development and management skills to enable the creation of a highly capable Finance and Accounting team
  • Strong analytical and independent problem solving skills to evaluate financial results, prediction and data mine
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to explains complex information to others
  • Effective interpersonal skills to drive tasks to completion
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and database management tools
