Job Designation
The Materials Manager oversees activities related to the purchase of material, material control, inventory control, shipping/receiving and stores functions. Ensures the fiscal financial plan and optimum cost effectiveness, while aligning tasks with company policy and procedures.
Job Core Responsibilities
- Effectively manages and develops staff for the Materials Function and oversees the related activities
- Ensures a steady flow of work is maintained through the manufacturing areas with proper routing, scheduling, dispatching and expediting of materials, including follow-up of work in process
- Sets team’s goals and objectives to achieve the functional, departmental and businesses objectives
- Maintains surveillance over all materials, functions, and work in process, according to established rules and policies
- Identifies roadblocks and inefficiencies in business processes and make improvements to ensure requirements are met efficiently
- Maintain the lowest possible net inventories and assure economical make/buy decisions
- Ensures general safety, compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and company requirements
- Leads and directs work for team of employees as defined by business needs
- Manages staff selection, performance, development and training processes to ensure team competencies and capabilities to reach the business goals and expectations
- Other responsibilities as assigned
- Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance
- Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary
Job Specifications
Education: Post-Secondary Degree in related field or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectation
Certification: Vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field
Skills:
Extensive experience in materials management and a successful track record with leading employees
Proficient in recognizing and solving complex and challenging problems from established operating procedures and/or scientific methods
Selects and uses applicable methods, procedures and standards to meet targets independently
Effective interpersonal, written and verbal skills to drive tasks to completion
Proficient in Microsoft Office and database management tools
