Performs a wide variety of preproduction and production inspection tasks on complex hardware and systems under demanding environmental and operating conditions.


Job Core Responsibilities

  • Program, set-up and operate full CNC lathes for production, prototype, repairs, tooling and short production runs.
  • Adjust machines, tools and create programs to achieve blueprint and process plan requirements.
  • Verify requirements are met using appropriate inspection equipment.
  • Complete routers, process sheets, program edit sheets, tool list modifications, fixture and tool offsets, SPC data and other necessary documentation.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Participate in all Meggitt improvement processes.
  • Ability to work with engineering regarding new parts or new machining requirements.
  • Ability and willingness to cross train others, and be trained to work where needed.
  • Be responsible to see that calibrated equipment is returned to Metrology Lab prior to the calibration due date.
  • Assure cleanliness and proper operation of equipment.
  • Collection SPC data as dictated by the Process Plan and Process Control Plan if applicable.
  • Participation in and support of Fabrication Team activities.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, qualifications, competencies, abilities and any physical demands if required.

  • Programming and programming classes.
  • Five years minimum programming experience and 5 in machining processes.
  • Knowledge of shop mathematics, machines tools, production methods and shop practices.
  • Ability to set-up and operate CNC lathes.
  • Ability to maintain close tolerance dimensions on critical parts.
  • Good knowledge of dimensional measuring instrumentations and use of such tools to verify actual measurements of machined dimensions and features
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, manufacturing routings, procedures, and routers.
  • Ability to work well with others in the areas of teamwork and communication.
  • Good verbal and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with SPC principles and methods.
  • Ability to logically solve problems and to keep assignments and projects moving in an orderly and structured fashion.
  • Involvement in successful process definition and re-engineering, a plus.
  • Experience in employee involvement in multi-discipline teaming, a plus.
  • Proficiency with computer based methods and tools, a plus.
  • Familiarity/experience with Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen events, and continuous improvement and Six Sigma methodology, a plus.
  • Must be hands on and willing to learn

To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the outlined experience level, education, training, minimum years of experience, product or industry knowledge plus any certifications in order to be considered. 

  • Minimum High School diploma or equivalent experience.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods and stand to perform work. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee must be able to lift, push, pull or move up to fifty (50) pounds or more with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

  1. Occasionally required to lift up to 30 lbs.
  2. Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach and move about the facility.
  3. Safety glasses, shop coat/apron, proper shoes.
  4. Occasional exposure to shop element such as noise, dust, odors and fumes.

Typical Materials, Tools and Equipment Used:

Materials worked on:Ferrous and non-ferrous metals in various forms; bar, tube, plate, casings, forgings, etc.

Tools used: Machinist’s hand tools, depth, dial and plug gages, and precision measuring instruments as precision blocks, sine plate, micrometers, calipers, indicators, dial bores and air gaging equipment, hand tools, etc.

Equipment  used: NC and conventional machines, attachments and all related accessories.
