Summary

The Trade Compliance Specialist (TCS) supports specific export/import functions (including systems support such as SAP/GTS, jurisdiction and classification determination, licensing and import processes) in the Trade Compliance function. The TCS responsibilities may vary from case-to-case depending upon the specific requirements for a task. 

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide specialised expertise for Trade Compliance export and import activities, may act as a lead in export/import activities, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Maintain working knowledge of all applicable export/import regulations, providing updates to management regarding current and pending compliance regulations initiatives and legislation that may affect company business, ensuring various reports with government agencies are kept up to date as required by regulations.
  • Keep accurate Logs of End User Undertakings (EUUs) and advise the relevant departments about their customers EUUs that are due for expiry the following month, fill the EUUs and ensure the originals for all military shipments are on file before shipment is made.
  • To assist the Trade Compliance Manager with HMRC IPR returns.
  • Ensure that all applicable products are classified (USML, ECCN, HTS/Sched B, CoO etc) for export and import in accordance with regulations of The US Department of State, Commerce and Office of Foreign Asset Control, UK Export Control Organisation and HM Revenue & Customs.
  • For transactions that are referred to the Trade Compliance Specialist assist in releasing export compliance-related holds on shipments after all Trade Compliance requirements are satisfied.
  • Assist in License preparations, Voluntary disclosures, MUR’s, General Correspondences (GC), semiannual exemption submissions etc. as assigned by the TCO.  Maintenance of any Trade Compliance related spreadsheets and documents and general administrative tasking.
  • Support the TCM for HMRC compliance matters relating to Material Imports such as IPR, OPR, Tariff Classifications, and Customs Valuations.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Knowledge and experience of Import/Export Trade Compliance procedures, such as the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and US Customs and Border Protection Regulations is essential.
  • Able to recognise and solve typical problems and select solutions from established options.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Well-organised, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task.
  • Able to coordinate activities for a team.
  • Strong prioritisation skills.
  • Presentation and training skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, web-browsers, and database management tools.
  • Knowledge of SAP and GTS is highly desirable.
