First Article Inspector

Job Designation

The First Article Inspector will perform First Article Inspections in accordance with AS9102 requirements. Inspects a range of components, parts and/or products as prescribed by all applicable specifications and quality assurance Instructions. And will perform Delegated Source Inspection activities on behalf of, and to the requirements specified by our Customers. 

Job Core Responsibilities

  • Performs First Articles in accordance with AS9102 requirements. Gathers all documentation to generate report. Understands GD&T and can perform dimensional inspection on parts. Ensures compliant to Meggitt and Customers expectations. 
  • Performs Final Inspection on Production parts / components. 
  • Performs Delegated Source Inspection Activities on behalf of Customer, ensuring product complies with the Customer requirements. 
  • Supports Receiving Inspection Activities
  • Documents Nonconformance’s (QN’s) in SAP and coordinated disposition with Quality Engineering.
  • Conducts examinations and quality control inspections on products, materials and components at various stages of the production process to ensure compliance with established quality and reliability standards 
  • Participates in analysis statistical data from processes to either confirm compliance with established standards or identify deviations from standards
  • Performs visual inspections of soldered connections, mechanical inspections of electronic and electro-mechanical assemblies and subassemblies
  • Prepares and completes all necessary documentation for reporting acceptance/rejection of inspected and/or tested items
  • Identifies design, process or other inefficiencies and reports quality concerns and issues
  • Performs routine quality inspections on engineering designs, assemblies, piece parts, final assemblies and tooling
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary

Job Specifications

Education : A Secondary Certificate/High School Diploma or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations.
Certifications : 

  • ASME Y 14.5 GD&T
  • IPC-A-610, Acceptability of Electronics Assemblies

Years Experience:  5 - 7 years or more of relevant experience - Aerospace experience is preferred
Skills :  

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize duties with minimal supervision, in order to meet deadlines
  • Strong prioritization skills
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and web-browsers
  • Full understanding of Aerospace Manufacturing practices, policies, procedures, regulations as these relate to quality specifications and standards (e.g. AS9100 and AS9102).
  • ASME Y 14.5 GD&T
  • High level of attention to detail required.
  • Excellent math & reasoning skills with the ability to read & interpret complex Blueprints and documents.
  • Effectively communicate by written or verbal skills with buyers, customers, outside source inspectors, sub-contractors, vendors, & others across various organizational functions to resolve issues.
  • Solve problems & make decisions where there are clearly defined objectives & functional direction.
  • Intermediate computer skills using MS Office products.
  • CMM operation
  • Visual IPI 2015 Version 6.13.1 (Visual fair) FAIR data base and Electronic AS9102 forms

Environmental & Physical Requirements

Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Work may be performed in an office or warehouse environment. Typically requires the ability to spend 66%+ hours each work day doing the following activities: stand for extended periods of time, walk, bend, stoop, or climb.  May have possible exposure to dust, and may require the ability to lift and/or push up to 50 pounds 33% - 66% of the time.
