Job Designation

The Fuel Systems Engineer acts as a key contributor in the Mechanical Engineering Team and creates solutions to a wide range of complex technical issues. Professionally leads a variety of mechanical engineering assignments and contributes to the characterization, analysis and development of the fuel system to include pumps, hoses, valves, vent subsystems, inerting subsystems, bladders, containers, and restraints.

Job Core Responsibilities

  • Provides  fuel systems design expertise to support development of new  systems or support and improvement of existing ones
  • Fuel systems include those of military, civilian, fixed, and rotary wing applications
  • Responsible for all fuel system design aspects in accordance with Meggitt standard operating procedures, MIL-Specs, FARs, and customer specifications
  • Fuel system concept development, generating technical proposals, hardware and software system development, system testing and evaluation, and writing engineering test procedures and reports
  • Manages subsystem, component, and service suppliers in support of project requirements
  • Provides technical support during customer and supplier negotiations, briefings, design reviews, and demonstrations
  • Provides technical communications, including presentations, memorandums, and reports, to company personnel, customers, and vendors
  • Supports complex mechanical engineering assignments throughout the project life cycle, often with minimal supervision and only general guidance  
  • Initiates improvements to Meggitt products, using best practices and professional knowledge
  • Acts as a professional resource for colleagues and provides technical direction and guidance to other team members
  • Reduces costs and improves mechanical design and development processes, using best practices and professional expertise
  • Performs value analysis during the product design phase while optimizing product development costs
  • Provides technical support for new projects and evaluates the requirements and implications
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary

Job Specifications

  

Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering; MS in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering a plus

Years’ Experience: 10 years or more of Aircraft Fuel System experience

Skills:  

  •  Ability to act as a technical and project lead on projects of a complex nature and provide fuel system  engineering expertise
  • Experience leading cross functional teams and managing complex fuel systems projects including subsystem suppliers
  • Fundamental understanding of any subsystem’s imbedded software development
  •  Conceptual knowledge of 3-D modeling and design practices, CAD and  CATIA
  •  Proficient in Microsoft Office and database management tools
  •  Ability to absorb and apply new technical information and evaluate implications
  •  Effectively communicates difficult concepts and negotiates well with others   
  •  Solid analytical skills and judgment to proactively identify and solve increasingly complex problems
  •  Demonstrated ability to improve products or services by applying professional and business knowledge 
  •  Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to drive tasks to completion
