Group Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis




At the heart of the Group Finance organisation, this role supports the FP&A manager in providing effective governance of key processes (such as contract bids & capex) whilst also contributing actively to FP&A routines (such as management reporting, forecasts and budgets).  Position has a great overview of the whole Group as part of a small HQ team, and provides broad exposure to many aspects of commercial finance.


Specific responsibilities:


  • Monthly actual results
    • Pull together materials to support, and assist with detailed review of monthly submissions and Divisional commentaries for the Group to understand drivers of results and identify and follow up on unusual numbers, trends, errors with Divisional teams.
    • Assist with production and development of HQ reporting model for analysing and presenting results to senior management.
    • Assist in administering cost and savings tracking initiatives (acquisition integration, reorganisations etc) on an as required basis.
  • Budget / Strategic Plan / Quarterly forecasts
    • Help to build / develop review templates and other materials to support Budget process.
    • Ensure forecast timetable adhered to by divisions, highlighting exceptions.
    • Commercial review of Divisional submissions for unusual trends/ errors, helping to identify the key issues and their possible resolution and ensuring production of review pack for CEO/CFO ahead of business reviews.
    • Help to pull together backup materials for any supplementary / ad-hoc analysis for management and for Budget / Forecast Board Paper.
    • Help develop and maintain Group Strategic Plan model, ensuring this is developed and rolled forward each year. Ensure plans are submitted at correct level of detail and data is saved down in correct format.
  • R&D capitalisation
    • Work with Divisional FDs to ensure that pre-approval is obtained for all R&D projects which they intend to capitalise in line with Group policy. 
    • Review capitalisation proposals to ensure logical and defensible assumptions around spending, as well as appropriate volume forecasts for platform sales and revenues.  Work with programme management to ensure cross functional knowledge shared.
  • Impairment reviews 
    • Assist with quarterly impairment reviews with support from FP&A Manager, including collecting and reviewing submissions from Divisions, and assisting preparation of a summary impairment report for CFO.
  • Investor relations
    • Support investor relations with half and full year results, including sourcing data, analysing trends and helping produce material for external presentations. 
  • Ad hoc
    • Role will include ad hoc assignments based on requirements of the Group Head FP&A, CFO or CEO.

Key skills and competencies required:


  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA)
  • Advanced Excel enabling fast interrogation of financial information
  • Good working knowledge of Finance Systems (e.g BFC, SAP)
  • Proven record of achievement within a results driven environment
  • Strong team player
  • Outstanding, demonstrable financial modelling skills
  • Strong organisational skills with ability to deliver high quality work in an efficient manner
