Job Designation

The Principal Engineer, Materials acts as a key contributor and creates solutions to a range of complex materials issues. Leads a variety of materials engineering assignments and contributes to the development of materials specifically designed to endure and perform in unique environments.                     

Job Core Responsibilities
  •  Key contributor in the Materials Engineering team, ensures alignment between the material selection and the component requirements 
  •  Uses best practices, knowledge and a range of expertise to reduce costs and improves materials processes
  •  Leads complex materials engineering assignments to reach business goals
  •  Provides technical support for new projects and evaluates new materials and processes 
  •  Supports manufacturing through process development and fault investigation
  •  Leads special projects and provides technical direction and guidance to other team members
  •  Other responsibilities as assigned
  •  The Primary duties in this job require analysis, interpretation or deductions from facts, available information and data. Requirements involve the comparison and the evaluation of possible results or solutions after considering various possibilities and making recommendations and/or decisions accordingly using professional judgment. Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance
Job Specifications

Education: Post-secondary degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations 

Years Experience: 10 years or more of relevant experience


Ability to act as a technical lead on projects of a complex nature and provides material engineering expertise 
Significant expertise in materials from their rawest forms to their most complex combinations in product design
Solid knowledge and experience with polymeric material groups – adhesives, paints, plastics, rubbers and composite materials 
Demonstrated ability to improve products or services by applying professional and business knowledge 
Ability to absorb and apply new technical information and evaluate implications
Effectively communicates difficult concepts and negotiates well with others      
Solid analytical skills and judgment to proactively identify and solve increasingly complex problems
Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to drive tasks to completion
