Job Designation

The Project Engineer/Manager leads the efforts of the Integrated Product Team (IPT) to achieve the successful execution and implementation of assigned projects. The Project Engineer / Manager will typically be assigned to manage several projects simultaneously. Individual will plan, organize, and manage all activities necessary to ensure the successful completion of assigned projects within established objectives. Oversees project life cycle and ensures results meet requirements regarding quality, schedule and cost. The Project Engineer / Manager is responsible for the management of development projects for commercial and military aerospace applications of fire detection, smoke detection and fire protection systems including mechanical, software and electronic control systems that interface to the rest of the aircraft, ship or vehicle.  The Project Engineer / Manager coordinates with functional engineering groups, program management and other departments to plan, manage and execute development programs. The Project Engineer / Manager will lead directly, or work with the Program Manager on efforts to manage cost, schedule, budget, communication, scope, resources and risk.

Job Core Responsibilities

  • Utilize project management tools and processes to successfully execute development projects.
  • Develop and maintain project schedule and budget and provide status updates to management.
  • Build strong relationships with customers and develop a deep understanding of their objectives
  • Establish forecasts, manages budgets and expenses to ensure allocated funds are spent as specified.
  • Work with functional organizations to ensure proper resource allocation for their projects.
  • Lead IPT meetings to track progress, assign actions and provide direction to team members.
  • Identify project risks and implement mitigation plans as required.
  • Lead and coordinates both internal and Customer design reviews.
  • Work with Program Management, Marketing and the Engineering team to provide accurate development schedules and budget estimates for new programs.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary.
  • Must be able to travel occasionally.

Job Specifications

Education : Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Electrical, Mechanical, Software Engineering or related field.  Master’s degree is preferred.
Years Experience : Minimum of 5 years of Project Management / Engineering or equivalent level of responsibility in an aerospace/defense environment.
Skills :

  • Experience in engineering development and project management including schedule and budget creation and monitoring from proposal to production hand off.
  • Strong team development and management experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook) and Microsoft Project Server for project planning, scheduling, and resource loading.
  • Possess a strong technical background to understand and evaluate the technical specifications, requirements and capabilities associated with the project.
  • Excellent oral / written communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to adapt and respond to changes in environment and priorities.
  • Able to interface with cross-functional disciplines using excellent interpersonal skills to drive tasks to completion.
  • Solid knowledge and experience in product and software development life cycle.
  • Self-motivated with strong problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Ability to carry out assigned duties with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of FAA aircraft and component qualification/certification processes (i.e. DO-178 and DO-254) are highly desirable.
