Job Designation

Under minimal supervision, the Production Painter paints a variety of parts made in the production plant, while following specific customer instructions and quality control standards.  This individual will work first shift which is usually 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m..

Job Core Responsibilities

  • This job consists of applying paint finishes (protective and/or decorative) to production type parts of various materials.  Application is by use of spray guns and must be applied per instructions or specifications.  Parts may be on conveyor, bench or table. Material may be handled off and on conveyor or skid to facilitate painting operation.  May receive instructions by written or verbal direction or, may be required to refer to prints to determine location areas of masking or identification.  Masking may be furnished or operator may cut out temporary masks, using clicking machines or hand tools.  A full body suit must be worn during the painting process. The protective suit will be provided to protect employees from fumes and potential over spay. May be required to direct or instruct others in this work.
  • Responsible for mixing and maintaining finish material per furnished instructions, and for adhering to time limits of can life, mix life and other time requirements as specified.  Responsible for recognizing that surface to be sprayed has been properly prepared or may be required to do the preparation.  Will keep spraying equipment maintained in best working condition daily, and replace parts of gun when necessary.
  • There is some walking, frequent light lifts and occasional heavy lifts up to 75lbs (but can be loaded by a Jib crane).  Work in spray booths or well ventilated areas.  Respirators are available.
  • Employees in the department are expected to participate in Daily Layered Accountability (or DLA) meetings, conduct problem solving activities and must understand lean manufacturing principles.
  • Other duties could include from time to time, sub-assembly work, assembly work and other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work additional hours as necessary

Job Specifications

Education: A Secondary Certificate/High School Diploma or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations is preferred.

Certifications: Vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field 


Pre-Employment Assessment: 

Job offer contingencies include the ability to differentiate between the variation of colors and finishes that are required in aerospace. Included in the contingencies is a paint application test that will be administered before an offer is made. Proper PPE and equipment will be provided for the test with guidance from area leads and Manager.
