Job Designation

Reporting to the Structural Manufacturing Manager, the CNC Programmer, under limited supervision, develops and maintains N/C programs, tooling, manufacturing processes and procedures required in the production of products. Performs studies of the manufacturing processes to reduce cost and increase productivity.

Job Core Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain the N/C programs and documentation required to support production.
  • Ensure the accuracy of the N/C programs and documentation created.
  • Review manufacturing procedures and recommend changes that will increase productivity and/or reduce costs.
  • Coordinate activities with various departments to ensure communication of proper and timely information.
  • Provide input on tools and tooling concepts required to produce quality parts.
  • Perform work under moderate supervision and work is reviewed to check progress and methods.
  • Maintains a safe work environment, with an ultimate goal of zero accidents
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary

Job Specifications


  • Associate degree (mechanical or manufacturing engineering preferred).
  • Technical Requirements: Catia design and manufacturing systems experience preferred, APT, Mastercam and manufacturing execution systems experience desired
  • Years Experience: Three (3) years of experience in machining or tool manufacturing with knowledge of N/C equipment.

  • Skills:

    • Analyze part drawings to determine sequence of machining, select cutting tools and apply proper speeds and feeds.
    • Prepare geometric layouts using computer graphic techniques or manually.
    • Establish reference points, direction, and depth of cutting paths.
    • Prepare tooling lists and process instructions and communicate this information to Manufacturing Engineering.
    • Coordinate tooling requirements with Tool Design and follow up on tool build.
    • Develop solutions to machining problems utilizing SPC or other engineering principles.
    • Coordinate initial N/C program verification efforts with Production and Quality Assurance.
    • Review engineering design and specifications to attempt to eliminate potential manufacturing problems.
    • This position is primarily technical, but frequently involves guiding and instructing personnel in production areas.
    • Must participate in Daily Layered Accountability process, Continuous Improvement processes, Problem Solving activities and have an understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles.
