Job Designation

The CNC Machine Operator may be required to operate miscellaneous standard machines, N/C and CNC  equipment and optical machine tool setters and coordinate measuring machines. This is a second shift position, working from 3 p.m.-11:30 p.m. in our Distribution Center. Training will be on the first shift, which is 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Job Core Responsibilities

  • The Cell Operator must be able to read and understand written instructions and act on verbal directions. The operator must also have a thorough knowledge of part prints, setup and tool drawings.
    The Cell Operator sets their own tooling and therefore, needs a working knowledge of tool construction for N/C lathes and mills and a working knowledge of their components. The Cell Operator is also responsible for the storage and maintenance of tools, N/C tapes, programs and fixtures.
    The Cell Operator, in addition to being able to work well with others, must be able to work with minimum supervision.  They may be required to instruct others in the performance of their job duties.*The Cell Operator is required to deburr their work as necessary for further processing and performs necessary quality checks.  The Cell Operator will perform all procedures to complete the work piece for further processing such as hand drilling of lockwire holes, hand stamping as necessary, parts washing, or any other operation necessary to complete work piece.
    The Cell Operator utilizes micrometer and other Standard Measuring Equipment (S.M.E.). The Cell Operator is responsible for the quality of his work.  The measurement of product and the documentation of quality characteristics for the purpose of product acceptance are incorporated into this classification.  The quality policies, procedures, techniques (such as Statistical ProcessControl), and frequencies shall be as specified by management.
    The Cell Operator must keep and maintain quality checks and records of those checks on plans provided.  The Operator must also record tool and part measurements during process certifications.
    The Cell Operator makes complete setups on multiple machines. The Cell Operator is responsible for following established procedures to ensure part quality from initial setup procedures through program instructions and part processing directions.
    The Cell Operator will work with support organizations to ensure the efficient operation of the Cell. The Cell Operator is responsible for the cleanliness and orderliness of their work. The Cell Operator is responsible for active daily participation in the DLA process, 6s and many other MPS related job duties as assigned.
    The Cell Operator will perform TPM checklists.
    Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary

Job Specifications

Education: A Secondary Certificate/High School Diploma or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations is preferred.
Certifications: Vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field 
Years Experience: 5-7 years of relevant experience

  • Skilled in the set up and operation of automatic or semiautomatic machines
  • Strong math skills and high attention to detail
  • Ability to understand complex instructions including schematics blueprints, schematics, models or specifications 
  • Able to apply an analytical approach to problem solving
  • Capable of providing  solutions to problems in situations that are atypical or infrequently occurring based on existing precedents or procedures.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
