About the role

As a Solution Designer, you will play a key role in developing solution designs for local, regional and global projects and be responsible for the creation of high and low level designs including requirements gathering from across IT and the business. You will also be responsible for the end-to-end management of the design from inception through to approval and the ongoing support for the successful delivery and go-live.

You will also be responsible for joint management of the technical governance and assurance of the designs as they move through the Technical Design Authority (TDA).

This role is instrumental in helping to shape all project designs for Meggitt, ensuring consistency with standards whilst looking to future to adopt new but proven technologies into the estate.

Core Responsibilities

Working with peers, stakeholders and project teams within ITG, the business and 3rd parties to create solution designs aligned to the agreed global strategy and standards:

 

  • Requirement gathering from stakeholders including colleagues within IT the business and 3rd parties.
  • Development of high and low level designs working with subject matter experts from across IT (e.g. platforms (server, storage, backup, networks, applications and security) and the business.
  • Present to the Technical Design Authority to gain approval from peers and stakeholders for the proposed design.
  • End to end management of the high and low level designs from inception through to approval and implementation.
  • Support project teams during implementation to track and document any changes required.
  • Jointly manage, host and document the weekly TDA and share results and actions with participants and key stakeholders.
  • Product owner for the agreed global standards.
  • Develop and propose new designs for adoption for agreement to the key stakeholders to become the new global standards.

Skills & Experience

  • Broad experience of IT infrastructure and how it relates to projects including server, storage, networking, integrations and relationships to applications.
  • Technical knowledge of software applications, processes and products.
  • Expert technical knowledge of hardware architecture.
  • Knowledge of the following communication and connectivity systems required: Microsoft TCP/IP, networking protocols, network printing / printer troubleshooting, file sharing, Internet application connectivity.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft technologies (e.g SQL Server).
  • Knowledge of Windows Server components including the registry, file systems, services, and system management tools.
  • Knowledge of Cisco product set.
