Role Summary

We have a vacancy for a part-time Head of Legal working for our Heatric business near Poole, Dorset. Although some time on-site will be required, this role may be performed remotely from home. 

As a Head of Legal for Heatric, you will be the primary legal contact for the Heatric business which is part of Meggitt’s Energy & Equipment division. You will also be part of a wider legal team supporting Meggitt’s aerospace, energy and defence businesses located in the UK and EMEA and may be asked to support that work if capacity allows.  

You will deliver pragmatic advice and solutions in relation to complex legal matters and advise on a wide variety and range of commercial work, frequently with an international element. 

For the avoidance of doubt, the successful applicant will only be required to advise on matters which pertain to English and Welsh law but may also be required to manage local external counsel and/or liaise with Meggitt legal colleagues in the US or Australia in respect of matters subject to other governing law.

Core Responsibilities

  • Drafting, reviewing, negotiating and advising on various contractual documentation and internal approval documents. This will include both customer and supplier facing agreements.
  • Communicating with and managing external counsel where required.
  • Providing accurate, relevant and timely ad hoc advice to the business on a variety of legal topics.
  • Drafting and reviewing company precedents, policies and procedures. 
  • Providing legal training.

Skills, Experience & Abilities

  • 5+ years of experience in the practice of English and Welsh law. Experience of the oil and gas and/or energy industries would be a distinct advantage. 
  • Broad commercial legal knowledge to include different areas of law (e.g. commercial contract, intellectual property)
  • First class drafting skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Organised and methodical, excellent attention to detail
  • Practical and commercial approach
  • Track record of building and maintaining customer/client relationships
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise workload with minimal supervision, in order to meet deadlines
  • Excellent customer service orientation
  • Track record of building and maintaining customer/client relationships
