Job Designation

The Supplier Development Engineer can report to the Director or VP of Purchasing, or The Group Head of Supplier Excellence supporting the Group Supplier Quality Manager(s) and the Procurement organization for Supplier Improvement and Development Activities, including the Supplier Zero Defect program. This is a “hands on” role and the Supplier Development Engineer will identify and drive projects to improve Delivery, Quality and Cost performance within the Supply Chain in order to provide benefits to Meggitt. The Supplier Development activities are focused on product and process performance for all Meggitt production including New Programs, Current Production and Legacy, providing the link between Group Quality, Procurement and Supplier interacting with all relevant functions as required.  The Supplier Development Engineer will ensure the day to day project execution & coordination at the Supplier and will utilize expertise in Purchasing and Operations and will be deployed to our suppliers to ensure continuous improvement of their operations as well as containment of situations that will impact Meggitt’s ability to support our customers and drive 100% on time delivery from the supply base. 

Knowledge and experience in Purchasing, Manufacturing Operations, along with proven expertise in the Quality Core Tools for Zero Defects improvement & quality system projects is essential (e.g. Lean manufacturing Techniques, APQP, PFMEA, DFMEA, 8D, SPC, MSA, CP etc.).


**This position will be 100% remote based in the Northeast region of the U.S.**

Job Core Responsibilities

•    Conduct best practice containment actions as a first step as a first responder on the ground initially for a supplier in crisis that is causing OTD and other issues
•    Conduct and review Supplier Manufacturing Process reviews and assessments, recommends course of action
•    Drive open delivery & quality issues at Suppliers to resolution using appropriate problem-solving tools and develops a recovery plan, line of balance, capacity studies, quality audits, etc.
•    Once recovery plan is established with supplier, the execution of the plan is handed off to the tactical team to status and update with the supplier
•    Monitors overall supplier scorecards to proactively visit suppliers BEFORE their issues become a chronic issue affecting on time delivery and potential shut down situation
•    Develop Zero Defect plans to eliminate defects
•    Schedule and conduct reviews with Supplier & Procurement as required with regular report outs to ensure closure of all open action items
•    Conduct capacity verification process and verify production trial runs
•    Drive capability (Ppk & Cpk)
•    Assist in the completion of flawless new product introduction
•    Support management meetings as required
•    Ensure governance is robust and timely
•    Carry out ZD and Core tool training as required

Job Specifications

Education: Bachelor degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience (8 – 10 years) that will allow successful performance of job expectations

Years’ Experience: Minimum 5 years relevant work experience; 8 or more years preferred

•    Excellent knowledge of core Process Improvement and Zero Defect tools (i.e. DFMEA, PFMEA, MSA, SPC, PPAP, APQP, Lean Manufacturing, 5S, TAKT, 5Why, 8D, etc.)
•    Understanding of various processes in a manufacturing setting related to Planning/Scheduling, work flow, bottlenecks, etc.
•    Demonstrable knowledge of Supplier Quality and Supply Chain Improvement and is capable of implementing current Supply Chain techniques
•    Highly organized and excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work in multi-functional teams including Suppliers, Meggitt sites and/or Meggitt Customers to deadlines and often under pressure and communicate at all levels within the organization and within the supplier organization
•    Thorough working knowledge of problem solving tools and techniques
•    Project Management, problem solving/resolution tools and techniques all within an aerospace or automotive environment
•    Conversant with Microsoft Office software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
•    HNC/D or degree (preferred but not essential), in a relevant discipline (engineering / manufacturing based)
•    PPAP experience including FAI
•    Knowledge of statistical techniques is an advantage
•    Extensive knowledge of Aerospace regulations and requirements preferred (Automotive Industry standards and regulations are an acceptable alternative)
•    Preferred formal continuous improvement qualification (green or black belt)
•    Flexible and prepared to travel on a regular basis, 20%-40% depending on criticality of issues
