Job Designation

The Senior Hosting & Storage Engineer - Platforms Team will be working across a broad range of technologies and liaising with multiple areas of the business to support, evaluate, build, deliver and maintain the provision of a performant and secure distributed Infrastructure environment.  They will have a bias towards Active Directory and VMWare Technologies. They will be responsible for providing specialist technical support and expertise across Meggitt’s Infrastructure and Cloud Environment covering hardware, technical systems software and cloud based technologies.   To provide specialist technology expertise and be the escalation point across the Hosting & Storage Engineers - Platforms Team, including  technical ownership and management of high priority incidents and problem records.  They will perform the lead role in assuring Infrastructure and cloud solutions. Ensuring that technology implemented is supportable and maintainable whilst making practical and commercial recommendations for the maintenance of our technology landscape. Driving efficiencies in the TCO of our technology solutions.  They will review the demand pipeline of work so that the impact to support and maintenance is understood. Work with Architecture and Solutions to input into the Technology Strategy and to define the technology direction of the company, ensuring alignment to the Infrastructure Roadmap.  To participate in the design authority process for all ITG decisions within programs, ensuring alignment with Architecture.

Job Core Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain traditional IT infrastructures, cloud ecosystems, and IT services to meet business needs. Manages compute physical/virtual and storage environments; oversees systems and services maintenance and security
  • Work with teams and cross-functional partners to identify and resolve systematic operational challenges that impact the customer experience
  • Proactively support and manage the global portfolio of Hosting and Storage Solutions ensuring platforms run effectively, securely and efficiently, ensuring hyper-vigilant support is provided
  • Be responsible for maintaining and proactively managing the global portfolio of Hosting and Storage Solutions
  • Provide Specialist level Incident and Problem management support.
  • Perform problem identification and root cause analysis for complex issues.
  • Perform regular health checks identifying and recommending any potential service improvements.
  • Participation and engagement in Projects/Service improvements impacting Infrastructure and Data Centre Services. 
  • Identification ownership and implementation of proactive maintenance plans including essential upgrades and software patches.
  • Monitor and review service performance at a component level e.g. Application Server, production of reports including recommendations for risk mitigation.
  • 3rd party/vendor liaison with respect to technical support, build and maintenance.
  • Meet levels of service in line with published/agreed SLA’s.
  • Adherence to all Meggitt processes including:- 
  • Raising, reviewing and approval of Change Controls.
  • Identify, investigate, update and resolve problem records.
  • Ensuring the configuration management database is maintained.
  • Ensuring that technology implemented is supportable and maintainable.
  • To ensure hosting and storage supporting documentation is maintained in line with improvements and maintenance activities.
  • Provision of out of hours support including participation in an on-call/stand-by rota. (as per direction from line manager)
  • Able to work unsocial hours when required which may include short durations away from home 
  • To provide technical guidance to colleagues

Job Specifications

Education Post-secondary degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations  


Years Experience 5-7 years relevant experience


Skills     

  • Significant number of years’ experience in a specialist support/delivery role in a medium to large organization, with significant technical delivery/support responsibility
  • Excellent customer-facing skills, including critical issue escalation & resolution, root cause analysis / corrective actions, and leading with accountability
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal and external business partners at all levels as well as with assigned peers  
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure while maintaining a professional image and approach, being data-driven with continuous improvement mind-set
  • Deep technical knowledge/specialism of the following technologies to “Expert” level:
    • VMware Cloud Foundation/ Netapps Storage/Microsoft Server platforms, Dell Vxrail ( HCI) 
    • Managing and upgrading Active directory in a multi domain environment
    • Global Monitoring and Alerting
    • Domain Services  ( DNS , DHCP, IPAM, PKI, MFA, DFS,NTP, File and Print) 
    • Backup, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery
    • Day to day and Datacentre operations in the Platforms & Hosting environment
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to be an effective team player
  • Experience of configuring, implementing, developing and supporting complex solutions 
  • Experienced in impact analysis and technical risk assessment.
  • Experience with IT Service Management concepts including all disciplines within an Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework 
  • Understanding of culture in its broadest sense and the diversity of a global organization.
  • Degree qualified or equivalent industry experience/certifications
