Job Designation

The Infrastructure Operations Engineer - Platforms Team will be working across a broad range of technologies and liaising with multiple areas of the business to monitor, support, deploy and maintain the infrastructure services across the global Meggitt estate.  You will provide operations support and expertise, including technical ownership and management of incidents, requests, problem records, daily monitoring, backup checks and complete both hardware and software patching cycles in order to maintain good operational hygiene.

Job Core Responsibilities

•    Be responsible for maintaining and proactively managing BAU incidents and requests
•    Be a part of the monthly patching process and report on status
•    Proactively monitor the infrastructure and applications services
•    Perform problem identification and triage
•    Create and maintain documentation/process/procedures/knowledge base articles
•    perform routine tasks according to process and checklists
•    Alerting and taking appropriate action
•    Providing support and technical assistance for infrastructure systems and networks
•    Conducting life-cycle management for assets including hardware, software, intellectual property, licences and warranties. Managing usage, disposal, compliance, inventory, sustainability, cost optimisation and protection of the asset portfolio.
•    Managing changes to service, configuration items, organisational change, supplier change and associated documentation.
•    Analysing and identifying, prioritising and implementing improvements and efficiencies.
•    Coordinating the response to incident reports, ensuring relevant prioritisation and detail to allow effective investigation.
•    Understanding and identifying problems, analysing and helping to identify the appropriate solution.
•    Planning, designing, managing, executing and reporting tests.
•    Work as part of a small team providing technical support on infrastructure services.
•    Provision of out of hours support including participation in an on-call/stand-by rota. (as per direction from line manager)
•    Able to work unsocial hours when required which may include short durations away from home 
•    To provide technical guidance to colleagues.

Job Specifications

Education:  Bachelor degree in Information Technology related field of study with a network engineering focus or equivalent experience.
Years Experience: 5 - 7 years of relevant experience

•    Experience in a support/delivery role in a medium to large organisation, with technical delivery/support responsibility.
•    Have some experience of Microsoft Windows Operating systems, Microsoft technologies, virtualisation software, storage and general infrastructure support.
•    Some technical knowledge and experience in a number of the following technology areas:
o    VMware Cloud Foundation/Storage/Server platforms
o    Active directory and a multi domain environment
o    Global Monitoring and Alerting
o    Enterprise Cloud
o    Backup, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery
o    Day to day and Datacentre operations in the Platforms environment
o    Global server/software obsolesce patching and security
•    Assist in incident reports, ensuring relevant prioritization and detail to allow effective investigation
•    Some experience working with external suppliers and service providers to resolve issues and incidents 
•    Good understanding of Service Management Framework principles and processes and the ability to apply your technical knowledge
•    Understanding of culture in its broadest sense and the diversity of a global organization.
