Job Designation

Under direction of the Facilities Director, The Plant Engineering Co-op will coordinate production and process optimization, troubleshooting equipment, data analysis and technical support for Akron Manufacturing and Engineering operations.  Support initiatives including maintenance process improvement, asset effectiveness tracking / improvement and participate in continuous improvement activities.

Job Core Responsibilities

  • Apply core concepts of engineering (mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science, structural analysis, control systems and electricity) to complete assigned tasks
  • Work with experienced engineers to troubleshoot various types of machinery
  • Complete continuous improvement projects under the direction of experienced engineers
  • Complete assigned tasks in support of larger projects including equipment upgrades, facility upgrades, equipment installation and repairs
  • Use Autocad to complete drawings and layouts
  • Specify and create purchase requisitions for equipment and contractors in support of various projects.
  • Perform assigned tasks using a systematic, disciplined, and analytical approach to problem solving
  • Communicate with internal employees at various levels as well as outside resources to complete assigned tasks

Job Specifications

Education: Currently pursuing Bachelor’s degree (2nd year) or beyond in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.

Years Experience: No previous experience required.


  • Good writing skills are required
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook & web-browsers
  • Experience with AutoCad or other computer aided drawing package
  • A Self-motivated, self-starter who works well in a team
  • Works with oversight/direction from management on technical issues and engineering approach
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
