Job Designation

The Composite Structural Analysis Engineer, reporting to the Manager of Engineering Analysis, will provide expertise in structural analysis, design, and fabrication of composite products for aerospace applications subject to demanding performance and environmental requirements. Will apply analysis skills and knowledge to help guide projects from initial concept through material characterization, design optimization, prototype development/testing, and qualification phases.

Job Core Responsibilities

•    Work collaboratively with, provide instruction to, and often lead a team of designers and engineers on the design and development of composite structures.
•    Identify suitable composite materials, and determine material properties and design allowables.
•    Define layups/ply patterns and develop/validate finite element models of laminates and composite/metallic assemblies.
•    Analyze and size composite structures for strength, stiffness, fatigue, damage tolerance, or combinations thereof.
•    Provide solutions for all aspects of composite structures production including tooling, laminating, molding, machining, and assembly.
•    Support structural test efforts including material characterization, prototype, and qualification testing.
•    Frequent interaction with internal and external partners and customers, and other departments at Meggitt.
•    Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.

Job Specifications

Education: Bachelor degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering or related degree. Advanced degree is a plus.
Years’ Experience: Minimum 8 years or more of relevant experience with a strong background in composite structural analysis required.
•    Experience with linear & non-linear statics, buckling, stability, fatigue, and linear dynamic analysis of composites.
•    Background in thermal analysis of composites would also be beneficial.
•    Proficiency with CAD and finite element analysis tools such as CATIA, Fibersim, Nastran, ANSYS/ACP, and Altair’s suite of tools.
•    Experience with composite design and manufacturing including fiber placement, ply layup, creation of flat patterns, compression molding, and thermosets.
•    Excellent planning, organizational, decision-making, problem solving, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to drive tasks to completion.
•    Proficient at technical/specification writing and technical report generation.
