Job Designation

The Senior Controls Engineer Consultant will serve as the Meggitt Braking Systems – Danville Controls system implementation lead for the ongoing project to expand furnace capacity from proposal/quotation review through implementation and demonstration of operational effectiveness. They will engage the selected control system vendor as Meggitt’s technical advocate ensuring that, from a technical perspective, that the new control system is correctly specified, designed, delivered, installed, commissioned and handed-over to plant operations on time and to contractual technical exit criteria. Assignment success will be defined by on-time, in-budget implementation of an operationally robust control system.

Job Core Responsibilities

⦁    Provide input to the vendor/system down selection process based on a deep understanding of Meggitt’s operational requirements and based on previous experience.
⦁    Ensure integrity of HAZOP analysis and prescribed safety procedure definitions relating to furnace operations.
⦁    Ensure selected proposal, approach, systems/equipment type, etc. will result in project success.
⦁    Interface with external system integrators and machine builders to successfully deliver fully integrated control and data acquisition equipment.
⦁    Provide expertise in control systems (DCS, Scada - PLC, HMI) system integration with MES, historian/data storage, sensors and mechanical devices.
⦁    Direct vendors as required for seamless integration of multiple assets.
⦁    Mentor the internal team so that knowledge transfer occurs.
⦁    Author and submit the appropriate level of documentation so that system capability can be maintained into perpetuity.
⦁    Accountable for demonstrating full functionality of the control system (including but not limited to automated data acquisition and storage for process and quality control as defined in the requirements).
 

Job Specifications

Education: Bachelor's degree; Specialized training or education in applied industrial controls engineering required.

 

Certifications: Appropriately credentialed Senior Controls Engineering expert required.   

 

Experience:  Documented leadership of at least two major new-build process control project in the past five years is critical. Recognized expert in the specification, contracting, installation and commissioning of industrial control systems in regulated process industries. Experience of furnace and balance-of-plant control systems is valuable. Must have participated in a meaningful level on multiple large scale industrial controls projects.

 

Skills:
⦁    Industry expert in design, implementation, commissioning and operational functionality of an industrial DCS and or Scada-PLC system in accordance with industry standards and best practices.
⦁    Familiarity with AS9100C and ISO14001 standards
⦁    Ability to interpret customer needs and translate those into actionable deliverables from multiple suppliers (including but not limited to furnace specs, support systems, and control system)
⦁    Highly skilled in operational process mapping and requirements development of complex manufacturing processes with high levels of process compliance
⦁    Ability to identify and communicate risks in real time and lead the team to craft and execute timely recovery plans
⦁    Must be able to bridge technical interfaces between multiple suppliers/equipment
⦁    Demonstrated ability to ensure end users can navigate, troubleshoot, repair, etc. the implemented Control System for long term value added functionality  

 

Project Scope: 

Scope will be limited to equipment, data, and control directly implicated in operation of furnaces. Including furnaces, pumps, vessels, valves, blowers, cooling circuits, power supply, water maintenance, control and monitoring, process & inert gas supply and control, effluent processing and all emergency circuits related to operation of furnaces in a safe and controlled manner.

System will require extensive review and upgrade of visual and digital devices and sensors to analog for transition to desired centralized control room operation and MES connection over current discrete at-furnace operation and paper-based monitoring.

Site is currently comprised of 24 furnaces with requirement for control system to support up to 72 and interface/control/monitor all support equipment as deemed necessary by requirements.
