Job Designation

The Accounting Specialist applies accounting expertise to perform a variety of accounting activities. Prepares records, analyzes and reports accounting transactions, while ensuring the integrity of accounting records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with accepted accounting policies and principles. 

Job Core Responsibilities

  • Classifies, examines, and analyzes accounting records and prepares related financial reports and statements 
  • Completes complex  projects and analyses for accounting or finance areas 
  • Analyzes and verifies internal consistency, completeness, and accuracy of accounting documents and makes adjustment
  • Prepares audit reports for outside auditors
  • Provides special knowledge and expertise, while performing a variety of accounting activities
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary

Job Specifications

  • Education Post-Secondary Degree in Accounting or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectation
  • Years of Experience 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • Skills 
    • Thorough understanding of standard accounting concepts, practices, and procedures
    • Strong attention to detail and highly organized, with the ability to multitask
    • Ability to problem-solve issues of a more complex nature, using special knowledge to analyzes information and standard practices to make judgments
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills to drive task to completion 
    • Proficient with Microsoft Applications and database management tools
