Job Designation

This position manages the development of brake friction components, maintains friction material quality and monitors friction material production.  Additional responsibilities include supporting development of FAA certification documents.


Job Core Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of metallurgy and the use of a metallograph.
  • Knowledge of metallurgy laboratory practices, including sample preparation.
  • Operation of friction material test equipment.
  • Manufacture sample parts for prototype testing.
  • Analyze test data from friction and wear characteristics.
  • Coordinate with engineering for test parameters.



Job Specifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Proficient with computers, e-mail, MS Office including Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Bachelor's in Metallurgy or equivalent work experience.
  • Master Degree optional.
  • Two to five years of significant subject matter expertise in friction material development preferable.
  • FAA certification experience preferable.
  • Must have strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Aircraft brake friction development experience preferable.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general engineer periodicals, blue prints, component maintenance manuals and governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present in formation and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
  • Mathematical skills concurrent with an engineer education.
  • Reasoning ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid analytical conclusions.
